A little Background on us and our Business Philosophy
Who are we?
We operate a Singapore-based boutique investment firm. We like to work with small-medium businesses with high growth potential. We are hands-on and we work along-side management to work to implement fast growth transformation roadmaps.
We provide equity and sweat equity depending on the circumstances. We work with managements and the founders to achieve an exit.
The Partners in Spice Capital are Mark Buchan and Richard Downs. They first worked with each other in London as fresh graduates in Pricewaterhouse Coopers in the early mid-nineties. However after that, their lives took completely different geographic and professional paths but they are excited to be reunited and working together again at Spice Capital.
Mark is a British national who has lived in the UK, Australia, Hong Kong before finally settling in Singapore for more than 20 years.
Prior to Spice Capital, Mark’s professional experience was almost exclusively working as a Partner in the management consultancy divisions with two of the “Big 4” firms in a consulting career spanning almost three decades. His consulting career took him across most of Asia, including China, Japan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and of course Singapore.
His personal interest in finance and investment were completely aligned and instrumental in the establishment of Spice Capital. Outside the office Mark is a keen wine enthusiast and is WSET L3 and SWS qualified.
Richard is a British national who has lived and worked in UK, Spain and recently landed in Singapore.
After passing his MBA, Richard established his first start-up which went on to become UK’s largest on-line ski and cruise retailer.
Richard was once on the Times 40 under 40 list and is an active member and investor as part of the exclusive e100 group of investors.
Richard is a serial entrepreneur and his list of investees makes impressive reading from a grass-roots football club to an eco-friendly personal hygiene products manufacturer.
Outside work Richard is a keen skier and can be found on the latest adventure holiday experience.
